Ensuring Safe Diving Through Comprehensive Medical Assessments

At our practice, we understand the importance of health and safety in every underwater adventure. A valid dive medical certification is essential for all divers and must be issued by a recognised Dive Medical Examiner (DME). Dr K. Khan is an accredited DME with the Southern African Underwater and Hyperbaric Medical Association, and the South African Maritime Safety Authority, to provide comprehensive dive medical assessments tailored to both professional and recreational divers.

Whether you're a seasoned diver or just getting started, Dr Khan’s dive medical certification process is designed to evaluate your fitness to dive according to international diving safety standards. These assessments take place conveniently on-site at our medical practice and cover all necessary physical and health evaluations required for underwater activity clearance.

Why a Dive Medical is Required

The dive medical examination is more than just a formality, it’s a crucial part of diver safety. Diving exposes the body to unique physical stresses, and certain medical conditions can significantly increase the risk of injury or complications underwater. A certified medical clearance ensures that divers are physically and mentally fit to handle the pressures of the diving environment.

What to Expect

During your assessment, Dr Khan will perform:

  • A full medical history review
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory evaluations
  • ENT (ear, nose, and throat) checks
  • Neurological and musculoskeletal screening
  • Any other tests required based on individual risk factors
  • Certification Validity

Dive medical certifications are valid for 12 months, in line with global diving health protocols. However, depending on individual health conditions or medical history, a more frequent assessment may be recommended by the examining DME.
